My husband bought me this machine for Christmas(per my request) and I love it. Have a older Hoover that I have been using for 10 years and it is starting to loose it's will to live. I have bought other machines in the past trying to replace my old Hoover. I bought a Bissell and took it back the next day. I even considered buying a Rug Doctor so I went and rented on and it was OK. This machine really works. My dog kept peeing in our dining room and we could not figure out why. I took him to the vet and he was fine, and the vet recommended Urine Off. But I called a carpet professional and $400 later the stain and smell was still there. So bought my own Urine Off on Amazon (save your money) and still urine. Used the Hoover and the stain is almost gone and it has been there over 1 year. I used the Platinum pet cleaner recommended for the machine (save your money). I would recommend the Professional cleaner instead. I gave this a 4 star because you have to empty the dirty water alot and it seems to drip water in the base and then that leaks, but other than that I love this machine. Thank you Hoover and Amazon!

the steam cleanetr works great it really get the dirt out of the carpet. the only thing is you have to clean the waste dump container good because it will block the sensor on it telling it that it is full and it wont sunction the water any more.

Yes, this machine is more expensive than most but it works fabulously!!! I've had my rugs done professionaly for $600 & it was a so-so job & left stains (they said it was a PH imbalance - who knows). I had none of the problems mentioned with earlier versions of the Hoover rug shampooer (broken plastic, leaking). Read the instrusctions & take your time. No one seems to make a great, easy to use stair shampooer however if you use the hand held device & take your time your stairs won't only be clean, they will look new !!!

Hopefully I just got a dud, in which case I will later update my review. As I unpacked and assembled the unit, like others I too was struck by what seems like an awful lot of plastic. The tanks seem much more fragile than my old floormate (one of teh original models). In any event, it did an amazing job on my living room floor. Unfortunately, about 40 minutes in I noticed it was not spraying. I reseated the tanks and it would work briefly for short periods of time. Dissasembled and cleaned everything. Eventually it stopped spraing all together (although it sprays fine with the hand atachment). Then noticed the dirty water tank light keeps coming on even though tank is empty and has been thoroughly cleaned. Seems like a good unit burdened with too many electronic gizmos for its own good. Got a great price on this at Koh** with 30% coupon. Fortunately they have a good return exchange policy. Will wait for new one to come in.

We purchased this cleaner to help us with the territorial marking issue we're having with one of our cats. Before we had the chance to do so the OTHER cat knocked a half a gallon of green paint onto our beige carpet. The cleaner worked like an absolute charm and we're thoroughly pleased with the results. I was nervous about the plastic parts issue (as was mentioned by a previous reviewer) but my concerns were pretty much washed away with the paint. Now, waiting for the special pet stain cleaning solution (shipped from one of the Amazon Buy-it-now-stores)? Completely ridiculous. Would have cancelled the order if we'd been able to find the solution in a brick-and-mortar store.
