Bissell 1867 Description

As the name implies, the Bissell 1867 Steam Mop Bare Floor Steam Cleaner is specifically designed to clean bare floors. For the areas in your home which are not carpeted, it is really quite easy to spill coffee or place other stains on it just as well as on covered floors. This is especially true if you have bare floors in the kitchen where a lot of spillage and accidents occur.

The way that the Bissell 1867 Steam Mop works is through its built-in steam cleaning feature. The device takes 30 seconds to heat up, then when you pull the trigger, steam will directly shoot out on the surface of the floors. The model has a terry-cloth pad which immediately gets rid of the dirt, grime and any other stain left on your bare floors.

Another convenient feature that the Bissell 1867 has is that its floor nozzle is shaped in such a way that you can easily reach through corners so that you will be left with spick-and-span floors. This is made possible with the swivel head which is easily maneuverable making cleaning in between surfaces a lot easier.

More importantly, the Bissell 1867 Steam Mop Bare Floor Steam Cleaner is one of the few steam cleaners in the market which does not require the addition of harsh chemicals – all it needs is tap water and all your cleaning woes will be addressed. Whether you have sealed hardwood floors, marble, linoleum, vinyl, laminate or stone floors, you can rest assured that this machine will do a good and thorough job of cleaning it.

Summary: Makes tile floors shine line new!

I have a lot of tile flooring and about a year ago I owned an Enviro bare floor steam cleaner (mop) which I really liked and I missed it when it quit working. I then went back to old fashioned mopping and have tried various regular mops which supposedly wring the water for you (and drop puddles on the floor) and the mop heads always seemed dirty even after multiple rinsings. To me, these mops were also cumbersome to handle and pushed dirty water into the grout.

When I saw the Bissell steam mop I liked the idea that the water tank was easy to reach and detachable for easy filling (no bending over with a funnel to fill up), no long wait time to heat up, and I liked the ergonomic handle and the cord wrap. It also comes with a wall hanging hook.

I have now used the Bissell steam mop several times. There is a dramatic difference in the shine on my tile versus regular mopping. Although I was pleased with the Enviro product, I like the results with the Bissell much better. I always felt the Enviro cleaned well but it did not leave the tile shiny like the Bissell does. The Bissell, however, is harder to push around than the Enviro or a regular mop. I don't know if this is due to weight of the item or the drag coming from the terry mop head. This is not to say that the Bissell is heavy to lift, just takes more muscle to push around. The results, however, are worth the extra effort.

The Bissell will not pick up anything that is stuck to the floor (neither did the Enviro) so I carry around one of those mesh bath scrubbies, let the steam soften the stuck stuff and then scrub it loose. Neither the Enviro or Bissell steam mop does much for grout so look elsewhere if grout cleaning is your main objective or if you need heavy duty grunge cleaning.

My Bissell steam mop came with four terry mop covers which is so convenient. You won't believe how dirty the terry cloth gets even when you are cleaning what appears to be a clean floor so it is nice to have extra cloths to switch to when cleaning a lot of tile or a very dirty floor. I wash these cloths in the washing machine with bleach and let them air dry so they won't shrink.

The Bissell steam mop is easy to assemble, easy to use, love the results. I always hated dragging out a mop bucket, changing the mop water, wringing the mop, cleaning out the mop bucket when finished, etc. but this steam mop is so convenient and easy, I won't mind mopping. Saves my back too from heavy lifting of mop buckets and bending over to wring those mops. Since the Bissell uses plain or distilled water, you save money on cleaning products or throw-away pads. In addition, the floor dries faster when using steam.

I love things that make life easier! For daily maintenance, this Bissell steam mop is a winner. I also highly recommend the Bissell Catch-All for quick pick up of light-weight debris and especially pet hair from bare floors before mopping and any time in between.

Summary: Love this Mop

I bought the Bissell Steam Mop for the same reason, I was tired of using harsh chemicals on my floors. I have a lot of pets and was worried about them injesting the chemicals. I have linoleum tiles in my kitchen and sun room and this mop does a wonderful job. While the mop heads are a little annoying to put on, once you get going, the mop is incredible. It easily cleans up stuck on gunk and between the tiles as long as I rest on the spot and just let the machine steam out the dirt. The one down side is that the mop head can get dirty quickly, so when my floors are really really filty, I use multiple mops in order to get the results I want.
Easy to use, safe and hygenic. Great tool.

Summary: love it! love it! love it!

with a household of 6, we see some serious dirt! we have ceramic tiling in most of our downstairs and it gets filthy! with young children we have big messes-and i HATE to mop, but i do have to clean it, eventually. i saved one of those eventual times for when i received my steam mop-just to see how well it would do. i am totally impressed!! this thing got up stuck on dried food-dirt-everything! and yes even more so then a reg mop. usually i have to scrub on hands and knees to get most anything stuck on, but with this i just steamed over a stuck on spot for a few secs and it came right up! just for an example-we have a dried baby cereal spot that has been there for months-that stuff is like concrete and nothing will take it up! i have tried soaking, scrubbing, scraping-all to no avail! then i held the steam mop over it for about 15 secs and most of it came up! the only thing i would recommend is getting the replacement pads when you buy it. they will get saturated with water-which is ok-it just takes longer to dry, and for the area i mopped -i really needed to change it for each room. i love the fact that when i take the pads off when i am finished that they are almost too hot too touch! boy do we feel clean! hope this helps anyone thinking about buying one of these!

Summary: Thanks for the tip

I got one of those vapor cleaning steam machines from vapor-systems.com and love it. Thank you for the tip. Nothing wrong with the Steam Mop. But for my purposes, I needed something made for large jobs and strong enough for heavy-duty use. Thanks again for the heads up.

Summary: Bucket no more!

Wasn't sure about this purchase - it's pricey for a mop, I was concerned about maintenance costs/hassles (distilled water? filters? replacement pads?), and bottom line whether it would really get the floor clean.

But I'm sick of buying lousy mops that don't work well, hate lugging dirty water from room to room, so I decided to give it a try. Note that I have a small kitchen with cream colored linoleum tile and I let the floor get really dirty to try it (spilled grape juice, sticky goo, shoe trackings, etc.)

PROS:
-It really works! My kitchen floor was very clean after, I was amazed how easily dirt and dried grape juice came up, faster than a mop. I walk around barefoot a lot and the floor feels great, clean, no sticky residue or chemical film (unlike the Swiffer-type products!)
-Very simple to fill, assemble and use.
-It was a JOY not to have to deal with dirty water, bucket or rubber gloves. Hands stayed clean throughout. Simple design, easy to operate, swivel head works well, no going over and over hardened stains.
-Floor is dry almost immediately.

CONS:
-As others have said, it takes some real effort to push/pull it across the floor, the pad does not glide but seems to resist the floor. This takes some getting used to, its more labor intensive than a mop. Might be better on hard ceramic tile.
-Didn't get along edges very well, it's hard to dislodge small dirt and debris there (true of mops too).
- Heavier than a standard mop, obviously. Think of a very lightweight vaccuum, will take up more storage space.
-Replacement pads, filters, distilled water...you will be dependent on Bissell for the life of the product.
-Didn't get up hardened 3-dimensional lumps on the floor.

Overall I think it's a keeper. I usually put off mopping but with this I think I'd be much more likely to just grab it and do a quick mop regularly. I won't throw away the mop (may crave the scent of Pine Sol!) and will still need to do the edges by hand once in a while but its just too nice not to do the bucket.

Really, this is the same idea as the Swiffer--no bucket, just grab and use - only with steam and power. Got it for about $60 using a coupon at Linens and Things.
