SteamFast SF- Description |
Lets start with a quick list of the functionalities the SteamFast SF-292 can serve: upright steam mop; floor deodorizer and sanitizer; handheld steam cleaner; fabric steamer; toys sanitizer; window squeegee – it can even be used to remove wrinkles from clothing items! When used as an upright steam mop, the SteamFast SF-292 Multi-Purpose Floor Mop and Handheld Steam Cleaner will work in such a way that it can clean, deodorize and sanitize hard-floor surfaces like tiles, sealed hardwood and vinyl.
The SteamFast SF-292 has a powerful 1,300-Watt motor which offers a green way to clean and sanitize your carpets. What it mainly does is remove molds, fungus, mildew, hard-to-remove stains, grease and grime. With the help of pressurized steam produced by the powerful motor, you can easily make use of the product to deal with the most difficult cleaning challenges.
The good thing about using this all-in-one cleaning device is that you do not need to spend a lot of money purchasing all the individual household items mentioned earlier. The SteamFast SF-292 can simply be converted from an upright floor mop into a fabric steamer in a matter of seconds. The machine comes with a full set of accessories, including: utility brush, mop squeegee, cleaning pin, a utility head for fabric steaming and more.

Summary: So far so good |
| |
So far so good, two rooms down using the mop head and one of the scrubber attachments on the grout on my terra cotta tile floor, and it's looking great so far! Easy to assemble, heats up quick, tons of steam, floors feel clean and look nice....
My only question is - is it supposed to be this loud? There's a pulsing "buzz" as it heats up that's mentioned in the instructions, but mine keeps on buzzing pretty loud throughout.

Summary: Easy to use, more than just a steam mop |
| |
I bought this item primarily because my sister-in-law was so happy with how easy her new Haan steam mop made floor cleaning. I've been getting more and more tired of dragging out the old sponge mop and bucket and cleaner, and scrubbing then rinsing then shining our older linoleum floor. Also, I have asthma and the various cleaners seem to bother me more and more lately. The "green" cleaners are easier on the lumgs but never seemed to clean as well.
After reading the reviews about the SteamFast SF-292, and seeing that price was much more budget-friendly than the Haan my sister-in-law recommended, I took the plunge and ordered it. With Super-Saver shipping, I ordered it on Tuesday and it was delivered on Wednesday.
Like some of the other reviews stated, we did have some problems getting the handle to extend but my husband finally used his pipe wrench and got it loosened up enough to extend the handle to full length. I hten experimented by cleaning the kitchen floor and it came out looking and feeling nice and clean. The mop was surprisingly easy to use and to store afterward. The hissing sound of the steam was even kind of relaxing.
Today I had to clean our carpets and decided to try steaming some of the dirtier areas before I went over it with our Bissell carpet cleaner. I just used the nozzle and "swept" the steam over the carpet, then ran the carpet cleaner as usual. Wow! What a very pleasant surprise! I didn't even add any cleaning solution to the carpet cleaner and the off-white carpet now looks brighter and cleaner than it has in ages. And all without a single wheeze from me. Not using solution left the carpet feeling softer and fluffier, too. I have no doubt the "pre-steaming" made the big difference.
This product is nicely made, easy to use, and priced very reasonably. I would definitely recommend it. Being very frugal, I don't make "larger" purchases like this easily but am glad I splurged this time!

It really cleans very well and is easy to use. I love that I can mop the kitchen and quickly take off the handle to clean the stove top while I'm passing by. Great invention!

Summary: Works Very Well, Once You Get The Hang of It |
| |
We were about ready to return ours until we figured out that the lower the steam setting (even lower than the instructions), the less water is left on the floor or item (when used on items other than the floor) and the Steamfast's cleaning ability is not lessened by the lower setting. Also, if you are going to use it on both tile floors and wood floors in the same cleaning session and do not want to change pads, use it on the wood floors first at its lowest setting and then clean the tile second on medium. If you use the medium setting first, too much water will be left on whatever you use it afterward when you subsequently turn it down to low. Also, we have found that if you let the mop heat up on very low for a longer period of time, i.e., about a minute or so before using it, less water will be left on the floor. What would be great would be a setting that first heated up the mop with no steam.
However, it works very well getting our floors "squeaky clean;" and the floors seem to stay clean much longer. We are keeping it.
Now...what's with this complaint about weak handles from some other reviewers! The handle is made from thick tubular aluminum and is screwed into a deep socket of reinforced ABS plastic. You'd have to drive over it with a Mack Truck even to bend it...and I'd be more concerned about damage to the truck.
We have also tried the clothes steamer. That also works very well once you figure out how much steam to use without leaving water drips on the fabric. Disconnecting and using it as a hand steamer for various tasks (accessories included) is not the easiest task, due to how well the handle is attached; so some improvement could be made for this feature.
Also, if the water reservoir needs to be refilled during one session, the process is quite awkward in that the the fill receptacle is near the bottom of the reservoir making it necessary to lay the mop down on its side if you want to refill it to its capacity. However, the mop will clean about 1200 to 1400 square feet of flooring on one filling at its low setting.
The mechanism for putting on the the supplied pads is also awkward and difficult to use. Get the Bissel "slip-on" pads. They work much better.
When we were deciding whether or not to return the Steamfast, we borrowed the Euro-Pro Shark Pocket Steam Mop ($119.00 at Target) and a better Hahn ($99.00 from Amazon) from two of our neighbors to see if either did a better job. The Hahn was very slightly better at not leaving water on the wood floor, and just as good, but no better at cleaning. It did not clean tile and grout nearly as well as the Steamfast. The Pocket Mop did not clean as well, period; and sometimes left even more water on the floor. Neither has the versatility of the Steamfast.
The Steamfast is not a perfect product. Neither are any of the others in this genre; but with a few minor improvements, it could blow the others away; and at $74, it can perform many jobs besides cleaning floors very well. We are looking forward to using the other features and attachments.

Summary: Great addition to my cleaning arsenal! |
| |
The Steam-Fast steam mop is great! It cleaned my tile kitchen floor in record time. I've also used it on linoleum with great results. I've used the hand-held steamer to steam clean my kitchen appliances and counter tops. Works great in the bathroom, too. I haven't tried it on wood floors yet, but that is next. Good product for money.
