Summary: Shark Steam Pocket Mop

I have so many mops in my closet because I always try the newest thing out there hoping I'd find something that would not only clean, but that it was also affordable, less troublesome setting up (ie pale, water, cleaner, etc), and quick. I've been using Swiffer wet mop for over five years (replacement pads and cleanser get really expensive, especially with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms) and have been somewhat satisfied but it left streaks, especially on my tile floor.
I've been watching the informercial for some time now and even had friends tell me they swear by the Shark steamer. My babysitter uses it for the kids who crawl all over her floor and I noticed how clean her wooden floor felt (we have to take our shoes off when we go in her house). So I bit the dust and bought the set with one rectangular and one triangle head at K-Mart on Thanksgiving Day as a gift to myself. I tried it the minute I got home. I love the fact that it was easy to assemble, the operation instructions were simple to follow, and I had it up and running in no time after plugging it in. I tried it out on our kitchen floor (wood) and after walking over it on my bare feet, the floor felt so clean! Then I tried it on our bathroom floor (white tile) and the floor was sparkling, I couldn't find any streaking, only shine! I love the long cord which allowed me to move around without unplugging it every time I moved from room to room. I'm going to throw out my other mops and make room for other things in my walk in closet! I have a 13-month-old, two dogs, and two cats; this is the answer to my prayers. I highly recommend this to anyone who is tired of spending money on replacement pads, cleansers, and using chemicals on their floors. I love the fact that you can reuse the pads over and over; no cluttering up our landfills. What a way to go green!

Summary: Comparison with Shark Steam Mop

The Pocket Mop has corrected some flaws in the previous version and added some attractive features that make it a better deal. I have the Steam Mop and liked that I could do my floors quickly, but wasn't crazy about some features and was eyeing the other similar advertised mop. I was pleased when the infomercial for the Pocket Mop showed that some of the problems from the original had been corrected.

For example: The head now swivels. This has helped for getting under tables, chairs, etc, but most especially in the bathroom where the Steam Mop wasn't that useful to me since it wouldn't fit around the toilet. The triangular head that comes with the Pocket Mop also makes bathroom floor cleaning much more effective. The swiveling head is also more controllable than the swiveling head on the other advertised steam mop.

Also, the cord is now attached higher up on the unit. I had actually taped the Steam Mop cord higher on the handle since its very low attachment was awkward and got in the way. The cord on the Pocket Mop is even longer than on the Steam Mop. I can now clean both my kitchen and mud room without switching to a different plug, which I couldn't do before. While it's a bit of a pain to hold up the super long cord, it's better than having to unplug it and replug it.

The larger reservoir on the Pocket Mop allows me to clean all my floors on one fill up which is nice. And it's nice that I can change heads fairly easily without burning myself on the steam. You can't switch a head cover easily though. While the Steam Mop allowed you to step on a corner of the cover and pull the mop away from it (so you could switch to a clean one), the Pocket Mop cover is indeed a pocket that you pull over the whole head and fasten with velcro. It's a bit awkward to put on and take off, but does function as two pads since you can flip the mop over and use the other side of the head. I've found it's easier to remove the head to switch to a clean cover and then reattach the head. The problem here is that with no head, the mop won't prop up and must be laid on the floor. In fact, it doesn't prop up very well even with a head on it and has a tendency to fall over. At least the water hasn't spilled out on those occasions. Best to prop it in a corner if you can.

With the larger reservoir, the Pocket Mop takes a bit longer to develop steam at first, but it's still pretty fast so I'm not unhappy.

The best part about the Pocket Mop though, is that the floor really does dry much faster than with the Steam Mop AND it streaks much less. There still is some streaking, but very little. Not sure why, but I'm most pleased about that.

All in all, I'm glad I upgraded to the Pocket Mop and am very satisfied with it. It sure beats old methods of floor washing and is better than its predecessor. One final note, buying through the infomercial is a huge drawn out hassle where they will do their best to ratchet up the price (a lot) through double talk and 'special' offers, none of which are worth it. You get the unit though Amazon faster and cheaper with no hassle at all.

If you are tired of hauling a bucket around when mopping your floors, and you don't want to spend a fortune on wet Swiffers, this is for you! I am now at the point that my lower back bothers me if I spend too much time vacuuming or hauling a bucket around for mopping. Additionally, I'm not very fond of having to do housework, but I do like my home to look like I do.

I've wanted to try a steam mop, but reviews were mixed and I was hesitant to make this large a purchase when I didn't know whether I'd like the mop. Fortunately, my daughter and son-in-law are more willing to part with money that I; they purchased a Shark Euro-pro in August. Unfortunately, they never used it and left it for me to try out when I returned to their home in September. Again, the positive side of the delay was that their kitchen floor provided an excellent test surface - it was awful!

I absolutely loved this mop - this endorsement is a real stretch for me since I'm definitely not Suzy Homemaker. In fact, I've been known to get very testy if I actually have to do housework, so if I like a cleaning item, you know it's one to get! This mop heated up quickly, maintained its steaming capability, and had a large enough capacity to allow me to mop the kitchen, breakfast area, powder room, and entry halls of my daughter's home. The difference in the cleanliness of the tile and grout, after one mopping, was significant. And, my lower back didn't suffer the way it does when I haul a bucket of water from room to room.

I did notice that the tile was a bit streaked - my daughter's home has a high gloss finish tile. I believe that anyone who has a matte or satillo finish would not experience that problem. This mop is available at the warehouse stores for under $100, including tax. Regardless of where you choose to purchase the Shark Euro-pro, you will find it worthwhile.

I loved the stupid machine! So easy to use. No chemicals, no fuss, no muss. Unfortunately, it croaked a month after the warrantee expired. The same thing happened to a friend who owned one (the one I borrowed to try it out) and love it until it broke immediately after the warrantee fell off. Very cheesy construction.

Should you still want to buy it, be aware that the Amazon price is high. I bought mine (RIP) at Costco for $80.

Summary: So worth it!

I just finished cleaning the house for the first time. At 1st I was worried. It wasn't putting out steam like my sisters Bissel I have used. Then I reread the instructionbs and pummped the handle a few times- and we were off!. I am a freaky hyper clean germa phobe. I had just mopped the day before and the mop water was pretty clean. So i thought I would see how much dirt was left. SHOCKER! The white pad was grungy and very dirty- I used both sides! Then I picked the larger mophead- and again it came dirty. I was horrified by how much junk was left- and my floors looked clean! The triangle head is amazing for getting behind the toilet, and I even used the med. head to clean the shower wall. Our basement ( concrete)smells a bit musty- after I did the linoleum floors in the laundry room- the musty smell was gone. The chair my elderly father sits in has a very "grandpa" smell- used the triangle head to get all around and up and down- and boy it smells better! AMAZING! I really can't beleive how my floors looked clean- but there was obviously dirt left behind. I will never sponge mop again! Yes, the handle could be a little stronger- but then if a heavier material was used- the whole thing would be heavy, which it isn't. I used to think my sisters Bissel was good- no way- hers has a few holes wehere the steam goes thru the pad- the Shark design covers the whole pad with steam- and once its steaming it glides fairly easily. Much lighter than dragging a mop a bucket around- I am so thrilled with my purchase!
