I had an older basic model we bought at Sams and used it till I cracked the housing. If I had known that I could have replaced it, I would still have it. I checked all the reviews and decided on this model because I wanted the edge cleaner and the rinse cycle. Let me just say this is far and above the older model. The rinse cycle is a MUST. It makes the carpets so clean! I was so thrilled with it! But as I finished the hallway, I went to change the water and stopped for about a minute to go move a floor fan to help dry when I noticed the chamber was empty. I had just filled it and didn't even turn it on yet. It had leaked thru and the carpet was soaked. I turned it on to suck up all the leaked water and all of a sudden it sputerred and hummed. I shut it off and my engineer hubby said the motor was blown from the smell. Since it wasn't even a month old we didn't even try to fix it, just called Hoover and they told us where to take it and they ended up replacing the motor. The shop man also tol my hubby that paying extra for the platinum may be the way to go as it has a 6 year warrenty instead of 1 that this has. Hmmm. But back to cleaning. I vacuumed with my Dyson first really well. Then shampoo. I had no issues with anything platic on it breaking. It was pretty easy to figure out. I washed, rinsed and spend extra time sucking up all the water out. The carpets dried in about an hour and I used a floor fan to speed it up. The room smelled fresh , my cream carpets looked fantastic and the only complaint other than the blown motor is that alot of capet fibers get caught in the spin brushes. But I was very impressed with it and couldn't get off the disgusting brown crud that came out of my rugs! UGH! I hope the new motor holds up cause this baby works great!

I have nothing but raves for this machine. I used to hire professionals to clean my carpet or I would rent the Rug Doctor Machine for a weekend. This Hoover Steamvac has far surpassed any results I've had with the rug doctor & professionals. My carpet actually dries ALOT faster with the Hoover. Before I would have to wait almost 48 hours for my carpet to completely dry. With the Hoover, it's more like 8. I'm so happy!!

I had a Hoover Steam Vac for over 10 years that was shared between 3 different homes. It finally wore out. I researched the internet to decide which Hoover Steam Vac I would buy this time, and chose this one. It cleans so much better than the old one. It is better than having a professional come to your house. I have 3 dogs that have accidents on the carpet when they have been left alone for too long. This carpet cleaner really works. You can't even tell anything was there. Using vinigar and water gets rid of the pet odor. You won't be dissapointed if you choose this one. I paid $199 for it which included shipping. No tax. My only complaint is that you have to empty the dirty water and refill the clean water so often, but I am sure it would be that way with any of them. Just have to think of it as a little extra exercise to the tub to fill up. Good for you!

We researched several different carpet cleaners before purchasing this Hoover from Amazon.com. We made the right choice! We have several different carpet styles in our home from plush to berber and it did an amazing job cleaning all types of carpet. We also used it on upholstered furniture and it did an equally good job on the furniture. It extracted most of the water from the carpets and they were dry to the touch in about two hours. The dirty water tank did have to be emptied and the clean water tank filled, frequently. Both of those tasks are easy to accomplish with this cleaner. There were only two drawbacks to the cleaner we have found so far. Any unused detergent left in the soap container must be removed when you are done using the cleaner. If left in the cleaner it finds its way into the clean water tank. If that happens you have to clean the clean water tank prior to the next use so that you don't have soapy water in with your rinse water. The other drawback is the power hand brush that came with the cleaner. The brushes really do not have enough power. Even the slightest pressure on the hand brush attachment stops the brushes from rotating. Finally, kudos to Amazon for the fast shipping. We ordered the cleaner on a Sunday night, used Free Super Saver and had it two days later.

Used first time yesterday. Absolutely terrific suction. I moved furniture back in place quite soon -- it really picks up water. I cleaned it afterward except for the nozzle. If it can break -- I will break it -- so I left the nozzle alone since it wasn't clogged. Emptying the return water tank before it gets full should solve some of the weight problem I noticed. The brushes came out for cleaning handily and went back on easily. The return tank is so much easier to clean than my old Bissell. I could see that from the pictures and was one of the reasons I chose this machine. It seems a shame everything is plastic in today's world, but weight IS a consideration, so I'll be careful with mine. The crud that accumulated in the return tank was truly gross as others have commented. I'll be running it again soon as recommended in the user's manual. It makes sense not to totally saturate the carpet, although I'd bet that the suction would still pick up most of the water. Money well spent.
