Finally! A machine that works as promised. Somewhat hesitant to buy this unit originally based on other reviews concerning the overuse of plastic on the unit but so far it's working well. I was glad to chunk my old Bissell (only 2 years old) since it was very prone to clogging. This Hoover model was expensive but it does come with a six year warranty and I fully expect to get at least six years use from it. The blue light is very helpful in finding pet stains which is our main concern.

the steam cleanetr works great it really get the dirt out of the carpet. the only thing is you have to clean the waste dump container good because it will block the sensor on it telling it that it is full and it wont sunction the water any more.

After reading the reviews written by others, we decided to take a chance and buy this machine. We used it to clean a filthy carpet in a foreclosed property. I wish I had before and after photos to post -- the before photos would show stains of all types and sizes and the after photos would show a carpet that now looks nearly new. We had debated either trashing the carpet, hiring a commercial service to clean it or trying this machine. We are sure happy with the decision we made. The operation was pretty simple --- just read the instructions, add water and cleaning solution and 15 minutes later you're cleaning the carpet. We followed the recommended 6 second clean "push" stroke and the 6 second "pull" rinse stroke for several "lines" and then used the dry mode for the entire area using as many passes as required (more than 2)until no additional water was sucked up. The carpet was nearly dry after 2 hours just as other users reported. We had previously used the Rug Doctor equipment from our local Lowes and Home Depot stores and this Hoover machine performed far better and didn't leave a wet carpet for a day as we had experienced with the Rug Doctor machines. We had no trouble with spilled water from the tanks as others reported. When the lights on the handle came on indicating that the tanks needed attention, we re-filled the water tank and emptied the dirty water tank with no problem at all. If you have pets, you will likely create a lot of fur balls that you will want to pick up as you go along rather than sucking them into the dirty water tank, but the extra exercise will be good for you. :-) We used the Hoover Platinum spot stain remover first on the worst stains and although expensive ($10/can) it was the best spot stain remover we have ever used. We used less than 2 containers of the recommended Hoover Platinum cleaner solution for about 1400 square feet of carpet - we bought more than needed based on our previous Rug Doctor solution experience. The auto-mixing in the Hoover cleaner was great and having separate tanks for the cleaning solution and clean water was a far better way to get the right mixture than the guess and by golly approach we had previously used. I hope this information will be helpful to you. We would recommond this machine to anyone.

I love this product! I have used another Hoover model in the past which was very good, but this one was even better. It has separate tanks for the soap and the water so it saves time not having to measure out the soap every time you need to replace the water. It does an excellent job! I couldn't believe the amount of actual dirt on the bottom of the container after using the product. Not to mention how black the water was! I feel much better to have this product in my house, with a dog and two small children. It more than pays for itself when you figure the rental fees of other machines (not as good) and for having to drag around heavy equipment.

I purchased this recently after owning a residential carpet cleaner for a number of years that died and after renting a rug doctor a couple of times. It was an expensive unit however I picked it up during a time when it was an extremely good deal. I was a little skeptical about how good it was when compared to other ones I have used. After using it on thick ply carpet and normal carpet, two different places, I can say that it definitely cleans better than any residential carpet cleaner I have used. Any carpet cleaner will get out a ton of dirt and make the water dirty. That's to be expected, but I used this thing over an area cleaned by the rug doctor and while it looked yellowish before it now looks totally fine. The dual cleaning action is great as everything gets cleaned for twice as long in a normal pass. Everyone says it's the driest their carpet has ever been after a cleaning and I will agree with that however it may somewhat be due to them telling to go up and down to wash/rinse and then up and down to dry. I never went over an area twice before but it does kind of make sense to! The spot cleaning option is GREAT! I couldn't clean one area so I sprayed a bunch of cleaner on it and left it alone for a couple minutes and sure enough the spot was done. It didn't clean up every spot however to be fair I think those spots can only be replaced by buying new carpet :( The unit is heavy but nothing bad for me. Some things I didn't like were the tank sensors don't seem to be extremely accurate. It'd tell me the waste tank was full yet it wasn't anywhere near. Not a biggie though as the tanks are completely clear. I'd rather they not include that "feature" and save a few bucks personally. I tried to use it to clean my stairs but I couldn't as I couldn't figure out how to get the cleaning brushes to move with the unit in it's perpendicular position. I had to lower the handle too much so that I couldn't actually move it. I'd like an option to let the cleaning brushes move with the handle straight up. The hand cleaner works better than others I've used but I'm sure my stairs aren't as clean as they would be if I could have used the normal unit. I personally would have preferred the tanks be 50% larger or more, but for some that added weight may be too much so can understand why they didn't do it. Another thing is that with my high plush carpet I had a lot of fuzz made all over the place from it brushing the carpet. The cleaner didn't really pick up the fuzz but rather left it for me to pick up later. I understand that could clog it up and it's not that hard to vacuum after you're done to get rid of it all but it was an annoyance. All in all I gave it 4 stars primarily because of the stair limitation. If it's user error I'm sorry but I couldn't figure out how to do it. If that wasn't the case it would definitely have earned 5 stars for cleaning my carpets better than any residential unit I have ever used before! And oh, to the user complaining about driving all over the place and couldn't find the solution I'd have to say "are you serious!?!?!?" Sure it's expensive but you can find it for A LOT less on-line. You'd think someone who can go to Amazon.com to write a review could search the internet for cleaning solution rather than drive all over town. I'm just saying :)
