Bissell 1867 Description

As the name implies, the Bissell 1867 Steam Mop Bare Floor Steam Cleaner is specifically designed to clean bare floors. For the areas in your home which are not carpeted, it is really quite easy to spill coffee or place other stains on it just as well as on covered floors. This is especially true if you have bare floors in the kitchen where a lot of spillage and accidents occur.

The way that the Bissell 1867 Steam Mop works is through its built-in steam cleaning feature. The device takes 30 seconds to heat up, then when you pull the trigger, steam will directly shoot out on the surface of the floors. The model has a terry-cloth pad which immediately gets rid of the dirt, grime and any other stain left on your bare floors.

Another convenient feature that the Bissell 1867 has is that its floor nozzle is shaped in such a way that you can easily reach through corners so that you will be left with spick-and-span floors. This is made possible with the swivel head which is easily maneuverable making cleaning in between surfaces a lot easier.

More importantly, the Bissell 1867 Steam Mop Bare Floor Steam Cleaner is one of the few steam cleaners in the market which does not require the addition of harsh chemicals – all it needs is tap water and all your cleaning woes will be addressed. Whether you have sealed hardwood floors, marble, linoleum, vinyl, laminate or stone floors, you can rest assured that this machine will do a good and thorough job of cleaning it.

Summary: No more mopping!

I moved into a 30+ year old house 2 years ago and have never been able to get the floors clean without using a scrubbing brush and a lot of elbow grease, and it still never looked clean. I decided to try one of the Dirt Devil bare floor cleaners that vacuumed and scrubbed and squeegeed and ended up with a big dirty watery mess on my floor - that could have been just the one I bought. I returned it and bought this and tried it on my kitchen first which has the "cleanest" floor and although it took using both mop pads & going very slowly it got off a lot of the grayish/blackish residue that builds up on linoleum plus all the yucky food stains and scuff marks. My floor now looks like a clean floor should instead of one where pigs live. I would also like to mention that I used the Bissell Catch All to vacuum up the hair and debris first. I think with the combo, I can toss my old broom and mop in the trash!
I really liked the ease of assembly and use and how quiet it was. I can clean while baby is napping. The only thing I wasn't crazy about is that even with the swivel head, it won't get the dirt right near the junction of the floor and cabinets so I'll still have to scrub that every once in a while. Overall though, this is a fantastic product.

Summary: Easy and Really Works

UPS dropped off the package and I was mopping my white, vinyl floor in 10 minutes. I am short on time with special needs children who can really track in on a floor. I could not keep up with it using a sponge mop and pail, and always needed a scrub brush. This steam mop works really great and it is quick, non messy, and easy to use. It is a little effort to push, but this helps clean the floor, you adjust to it very quickly. I definitely pushed and scrubbed harder with a normal mop. My son had scotch tape stuck on the floor and the steam loosened and removed it. The cotton head scrubs just like a towel in your hand and the swivel head makes it easy to get in anywhere. It is not that big and stores away easily. Virtually no clean up after it other than removing the cotton mop cover and throwing it in the washer.

The instructions say not to add any cleaner to the water and I didn't, but for a walkway where the finish is even getting worn, and it gets dirtier, I put a little bit of Bissell Hard Floor Cleaner on the floor and just let the mop push it around like you would with a normal mop.

My floor was clean and shiny and sanitized in much less time. The floor also dried faster since it doesn't get that wet.

Summary: Terrific! wish I would have had it sooner

I'll be honesnt, I didn't really expect a whole lot from this thing. The only reason I bought it was for the positive reviews I found on it. If your looking for a short cut to mopping, Then this is it! It did a great job on both my linenolium and tile floors. I have a one year old house that we built and was getting some funny circles around the toliet (maybe from the glue they used to install it?)that I tried to clean several times, well this thing did it! I also love the fact that it uses no soap or chemicals and still does a pretty decent job. It dosen't really get along the sides real well, but I doubt your mop and bucket would do a better job. I read the review about it not working in GFI outlets, this is false, at least for me,I plugged it right into the bathroom counter outlet (which is GFI by law). No problems for me, I would recommend getting another set of the terry cloth covers for it.

Summary: box to clean floor in no time

I have been looking for a quick, efficient way to clean my kitchen floor for some time. I finally chose this mop due to its price and reviews. I must say I am impressed. It took no time at all to set up and I was on my way. It does give your arm a little bit of a workout to hold down the steam button and push the mop but the results were great and clean-up a snap. No more do I have to deal with buckets and wringing out old fashioned mops. With a toddler and a dog my kitchen floor is forever dirty. This will no longer be the case with my new bissell!

Summary: Non Toxic - sort of

After reading some of the other reviews I realize to get the really clean I am going to have to move a LOT slower when I use this. On my second use, I intend to do just that.

I did not have any problems moving the mop "back and forth" as some other reviewers did. Once the steam is going strong and the pad is wet it moved back and forth pretty good (although the pulling motion was smoother).

Pros:
No chemicals on my floor, in the air, etc.

Relatively easy to assemble (once I found the screws. Note: they are connected to the upper piece with a red piece of tape. I sat for 5 minutes staring at the mounting screws and trying to figure out which was the small and which was the large (they were the same!!). Finally I realized there was another package of screws).

Steam starts quickly and you are up in running in seconds. No messy dirty water, dripping mop, etc.

I used one pad to clean my utility room, 2 bathrooms and a tile kitchen.

Cons:
Big bold letters on the instructions tell you that the cord contains lead! "Wash hands immediately after use - birth defects, reproductive harm!" WHAT??? I buy something so I can have a chemical free home and I get lead instead? This pregnant mother with 2 small children is less than amused.

This would probably be FANTASTIC for someone without kids. It quickly and easily cleaned your 'run of the mill' dirt and spots up. It did get the dried on cheese off the floor. But it took MANY passes over it to get it to come up. I probably spent five minutes on that spot.

I had visions of it lifting the dirt and grime from the grout and that just didn't happen. It cleaned as well as, but probably no better than, my old fashioned string mop (which does do a better job than a sponge mop or the Clorox mop on tile/grout).

My pad has little holes (wear holes) after just the first use! Not sure how much longer it is going to last and at approximately $6 per pad that could be expensive (more expensive than cleaner would be).

I haven't tried reattaching the mop pad yet. But I will take the advice of some other reviewers and get it wet first.

Overall, I prefered this to pushing around a dirty mop and dirty water. It's a bit pricy. I got the Amazon credit card and used the $30 discount to justify this one.
